Another Year Older

Yesterday I celebrated motherhood. Today I celebrated life. Gone are the days of counting down to the "big day." Turning another year older has somehow lost it's charm. And though, as I child I vowed my birthday would always be worthy of a celebration, it has indeed become just another day.

Today was one of the best birthdays I have had. There was no party. No balloons, banners or streamers adorned my walls. The Big One was upset that we had no party hats. Instead I spent a quiet day with my girls. The Big One and I had some quality time that was long overdue. We crafted the day away. Here is what we made:

Butterflies....

Frogs...

and Turtles.

The Captain brought home a chocolate Carvel ice cream cake, so after dinner we looked for candles. The Big One wanted to blow out candles. This is what we came up with:

And yes- that is a pipe cleaner! LOL
We lit the candles, The Big One beside herself with excitement to blow out the candles had to wait to pose for a picture...

Ready... One... Two... Three... Blow!

While preparing for this post and picking the photos to use, I start looking for the picture of The Big One and I blowing out my birthday candles.  I know it is going to be sooo cute. Imagine my surprise when this is what I find...

Ummm... Captain? The point of waiting for you to be ready was so that you could get our faces! Jeez Louise!

Anyway, the cake was delicious!

And the greatest gift of all came tonight when I was trying to soothe the Little One. (She's teething and has been pretty miserable).
The Big One walked over to me and said "Mom, you take such good hair of my sistah!" Yup, that's a proud mommy moment!

And here is our best attempt at a family photo without any one's head cut off:

At least I look good- I am the birthday girl after all!
